Dootsy in Illinois

In June, we went to Houston to visit Linda, Mike, Katie, Lauren and of course mom. I had been preparing mom for our visit but was nervous as how she would take the news that she would be coming home with me all the way to Illinois. I have to admit that my mind kept playing out various scenarios of what it might be like for mom to transition from Linda's house to mine. Finally, the night before we were to leave to head home to Illinois, Linda and I prayed that God would work out all the details of the transition for mom. To our surprise and delight mom was ready, willing and eager to pack up for the trip (or visit) as we like to call it. What an answer to our prayer and a reminder that God knows exacltly what to do when we don't. Since then mom has been flexible with everything, happy and a joy to have around. Rebecca, Matthew and Jennifer are enjoying their time with their grandma and learning new things about her each day. She is always ready to hop in the car and go places with me and has recently helped me pick out some new eyeglass frames! Mom is glad to help or go along to doctor's appointments as long as its not for her!

Mom remembers being at my house before and really enjoys spending time in the sunroom overlooking the lake and watching all the ducks, geese and squirells as they try to sneak birdseed out from the feeder. She watches over my dog Biscuit and is always making sure he is fed well and often. She spends a lot of time reading books, magazines and even the latest National Enquirer. She especially likes to read historical books and recently found a few at a garage sale. Since mom had cataract surgery in both her eyes while she was in Houston, she can now see 20/20. She has eagle eyes and has found loose change while on walks or in parking lots. We have a contest going to see who can find the most loose change and so far she is winning! Mom also loves to go on walks and so far the summer here has been unusually cooler (high 70's & low 80"s) which has made our walks so enjoyable. I have a walking partner and its been good to get out once or twice a day for the excercise. I am crossing my fingers that I will lose some weight as an added bonus. I have also found out that mom has had a hidden talent of being a skilled checkers player. She has beat me fair and square, all but once. I recently had her play Steve who is very competitive and to his surprise she beat him too! She definately has some strategy going on and remembers the game well and definately enjoys to win......

We recently watched some old movies that Uncle Joe had sent and mom really enjoyed seeing her family. We also watched Jenna's wedding dvd and got to see everyone.
I will try to post some pictures of mom soon (as soon as my kids show me how to do it again).
